Having seen these in person, I think they look great. Taillights aren't great although I kind of like how they look lit up at night when you can't really see the rest of the rear. Taillights aside, this is my favorite Boxster so far(based on looks) and the interior is more like the 991 than the 987 was 997 which to me is a good thing.
I had actually forgotten briefly that the Boxster/Cayman gets held back because I was too busy being excited for these new ones. I'm sure the handling will be incredible but like you mentioned it sucks that they continue restricting the power. Overall though I definitely agree with you that it'll be a great car.
As someone waiting to hopefully buy the next Cayman S, I would assume there are many others like me who A. Can't afford any major aftermarket engine work for a while and B. Don't want to risk saying screw you warranty! So sadly(relative sadness, I'll still be a 9.9/10 on the happiness scale) I'll be stuck with the stock motor that I know Porsche could've done better with if they would just realize that they're looking at two different buyers. I would assume that the person looking to spend $90,000 on the highest powered mid-engine Cayman available isn't the same person looking to spend the same amount of money on a fairly standard Carrera. But hey I'm not on Porsche forums often so I have no clue what the general consensus is.
