Nikon or Canon
I'm new to SLR cameras and pretty new to photography. I'm looking at the Nikon D3100 and the Canon rebel t3. Anyone have an opinion on either of these. Price between the two doesn't matter.

Between those two i'd say the d3100.
For the money the build quality on the d3100 is far more superior to the T3. But I personally like the button layout on the T3 where the Nikon is more menu based. (for changing setting)

i'd say give this a read since you say you're new to photography.
Everything you need to know about buying a camera | The Verge
and often, when getting into the DSLR game, you'll more often choose between Nikon or Canon based on the accessories rather than the camera bodies themselves. because once you've got 4 lenses and 3 flashes and a whole bunch of other random crap that only goes on Nikons, you're not switching over to Canon very easily.A successful man is someone who wakes up in the morning, goes to sleep at night, and does whatever makes him happy in between.

Was at Best Buy today and checked out both cameras in question. I liked the Nikon better. The Canon T3 had a cheap plastic feel. I earned a bunch of reward points with Audi for my work performance last month and Audi has a catalog for me to redeem my points. These are the two cameras in my point range. I ordered the Nikon d3100. Thanks for the advice. Can't wait to get it!

Keep in mind when you're starting to buy lenses for the D3100 that not all nikkor lenses will autofocus on the D3100 because it has no buildt in AF motor. You'll need to buy nikon's "AF-S" lenses to get autofocus working. It's the one stupid thing nikon does with its entry level cameras that makes me recommend canon over nikon for anyone looking for a cheap camera.
