Default Just recently got a Nikon D5100.

I'm new to taking high quality pictures.

My mother bought a Nikon D5100 Digital SLR 18-55mm VR Lens + 55-300mm VR Lens. I have been missing around with it. And I hope to someday (soon) get good like what I see around here, amazing car and other pictures.

So what advice can you give someone starting out? I have CS5 and LightRoom 3.5 (for Tethering, and other stuff I need to learn) and Aperture.

Did you guys follow tutorials or just learn by doing?

    Default

get a polarizer filter for both lenses
invest in quality (often expensive) lenses
    do lots of shooting
lightroom will be more than enough as far as post processing goes. don't know about aperture but always wanted to try it out.
