Canon T3i Question Which lens should I get?
Should I get the T3i with the standard 18-55mm lens kit?
Or
Should I get the t3i body and the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Telephoto Lens separately?

You are going to need an every day zoom lens. While the 50mm is a great lens, its not something that makes a sensible walk-around lens.

I think it all depends on your future plans. Do you foresee yourself buying other lens in the future? Or are you wanting a package where it is only necessary to have one lens?

i don't mind the lens kit, but Im not sure if there are any better lens out the for the money.. At this point I don't plan on buying lens for it. Currently Amazon has the t3i body for 649.00 shipped. Im curious if there are lens in the $150 range that's worth buying than getting the t3i with lens kit.

No, good glass is going to cost you $600+. If you don't plan on getting additional lenses in the future, than I would just get the kit lens. It'll be plenty for what you need.

Well in comparison to the 50mm the kit lens is HORRIBLE. But if you don't compare them you won't notice.

kit lens makes sense. a decent lens will be in the 600-800 range easy. the prime lens is good for indoor low lighting portrait shots. if you do a lot of it, you can get that to compliment the kit lens.
i have 24 -70 F2.8 L lens. it is great in low lighting but heavy as 2 bricks (and $$$). i am now considering bringing my kit lens to carry around when traveling on foot.

Best thing you can do is to go with the kit lens and shoot with it untill you have enough experience to know for yourself what lens you want next. Some people like wide angle, others digg tele, macro, small DOF etc etc etc. We're all different, so something that's right for one person might not suit you ;-)
