My photography, feedback would be awesome
I started on L4P just commenting and providing commentary for peoples' posts. I figured that i'll just show what I have and see if people dig it or not. I don't usually shoot cars like most of the forum members, but seeing how this is the photography section, I think the pictures still apply. I also really like high contrast black and white, as you will see.
I use a Nikon D60 with kit lens and a 55-200mm. No lighting (yet), no accessories. Just me and my camera.

Ok... honestly... here are my points and they are probably all over the place right now but take it as you will.
There are lots of photos but only a few stand apart from the rest. In some photos I am thinking to myself... what's your train of thought into taking this photo? Leaves? Dirty things (keyboard)? dying flower with clutter in the background? flower and leaves photos are so played out that unless you are WAY GOOD i wouldn't even show them.
The ones that stand away from the rest are:- The guitar photos with the black background (CLEAN the guitar or make sure it's old and dirty to tell a story in this case.. it's only dusty)
- the 1st eye shot it's cool.. not the

- Basketball - i like the composition and lighting and the story behind a used and dirty-- it talks about dreams, fun moments, sweat, victory or defeat depending on the context.
Now... can you PLEASE tell me what were you thinking when you took these photos and uploaded it for us to see?

I am not trying to insult you and I am sorry if this has come out the wrong way but you did ask for feedback and by me saying... "Oh nice photos keep up the good work" it's not going to make you any better. Pointing out what you did right and what you did wrong will make you a better photographer.

Thanks, some of these photos were mediocre, yes. I took them earlier on when I was a little more inept with the camera. And yes the moss and fan ones were bland, but IMO I like the self portrait one b/c of the color and simplistic edges.
For the guitar, I just picked it up and didn't bother dusting it off :/. The B&W "shocked" portrait was out of focus but I liked the emotion. And yes, the keyboard one was kinda crappy b/c I had just thought of the idea of capturing long exposure motion with a keyboard typing. The thought just sprung up on me and I wanted to take it. Though thinking retrospectively, I could've setup the shot in a much better way instead of candidly.
As for some of the leaves, and flowers, I was testing out an old film lens and the final product was a little sub-par. I just need to show the best of the best of the best from now on I think you pointed that out, so thanks for that advice
Also you are right about the "what you did wrong" statement. Critique and feedback are best when explaining when improvements should be made, not just patting someone on the back.

your macro/bw work is pretty good, great clarity and use of compoition with the objects in the scene, some of your other shoots are bit bland but i like your style

The first guitar picture and the basketball are the best IMO. Compostionally they are very strong and have good clarity. Just keep shooting and get a style down that you like. Sometimes I'll go out and shoot 6-700+ photos and only get maybe 5-10 strong shots with maybe only 1-2 that are worthy of a portfolio. Keep it up!

Well, your first problem is that you're a Rangers fan...

Nice work though..the Guitar shots are great. You've got shots in there that are really good and shots that, as ddi said, a bit bland. Everyone takes bland pictures though, it's just a matter of releasing the best ones into the wild =) Overall the lighting and composition is very good though.
