Uploading/Organizing Images Web Albums vs Flickr
I've tried Photobucket and Imageshack, I ended up using Imageshack. I then switched to Flickr after hearing about its hype and it's 'power' with communities. Flickr was my main picture storage/hosting website, it offered 100mb of photo uploads per month and ~3 video uploads per month, It also organized content into sets with labels, descriptions, and varying photo sizes. Until a few days ago I've been a Flickr guy, but then I decided to get Picasa... I had photoshop on my computer before and I believe in open-source free programs so I thought picasa was google's variant of photoshop. When I downloaded Picasa 3 from googles website, I was disappointed and was planning on uninstalling because it did not have ANY of the awesome photo creating/editing tools that photoshop had, and it had a confusing interface. But the magic started when I opened a photo on my computer, the program automatically associated it's photo viewer to every image on my computer and when I open the photos it gives me a cool little interface that lets me mess with the photo, zoom, pan, darkens outside of the screen (You need to check it out) and just because of this feature I decided to keep the program. The program also has some simple photo editing tools, but does not go in depth like photoshop.
A little later I found out that there was an 'upload' button for the photos within the program. It allowed me to upload to a 'Google Web Album' account and since I have a google account for gmail, calendar, blogspot, etc. I just entered it. That is when I found out that I was going to copy all my flickr photos and all the remaining photos and put them onto Google Web Albums due to seamless integration of this program (from google) and google's web albums. I could easily select a folder on my computer and have it sync with an Web Album's folder, so whenever I delete or add a photo, it deletes or adds it to the Web Album. I quickly organized all the photos on my computer and syncd them up. Google allows you to upload 1 gigabyte of photos and I'm sure it will increase, a lot more than flickr's 100megabyte per month deal.
Anywho, I'm excited about Picasa and Web Albums and I'm trying to convert you guys... SO GO GET IT, Try it out. Picasa 3: Free download from Google
Tell me what you think...
ALSO Whenever I want to quickly show an image on my computer to somebody else, I use tinypic (it's hasslefree)Last edited by MWolfe; 04-24-2009 at 03:27 AM.
