24-105 is a good place to start. nice versatile lens. 50mm 1.4 is a good supplemental lens, for fun.

    24-70 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8 are a killer combo!

Personally I would go with something more like a 24-70 f/2.8 vs the 24-105... then get something with a bit more range like a 70-200L for a bit more range.

But I like prime lenses best.

Edit: DTM beat me to it lol

The 35,50 & 85 are great for portraits IMO. 24-70 is GREAT walkaround lens that you shoot anything from landscapes to portraits to cars etc with and not have to swap lenses out. Should get some super crisp pictures.

Hope you don't mind I link you to another forum:

Just curious. What made you switch to Canon?

    VIDEO OF THE 5DMARKII

I Had a DVX100b that I spent $$ on and it sat in closet because

    1) Too much of a pain to travel with
    2) You stick a video camera in front of people they clam up
    3) Want full frame

So I sold both to fund...

having one myself i would suggest 24-70 too but I kinda thought Ray might want something lighter... what you think Ray, you want to carry a beast of a camera around? that sucker is heavy.
