School me on this Camera set up real quick .....
I've been looking at a new DSLR for quick some time now and I'm curious about these two set ups I've been looking at that come with a body & lens package from BHPhotovideo.com.
I'm upgrading from a Canon Rebel XTi and thinking about jumping on the Canon 50D unless the Canon 500D will be a good choice as well? I'm still learning and not all that advance yet for the record. I'll be purchasing the 580EX or the 430EX depending what you guys recommend and the battery grip, lowepro bag and etc.
Here are the lens choices that come with the camera:
18-200MM IS Lens
18-135MM
17-85 USM Lens
Can any of you guys tell me the differences between those three lenses and the shooting style of them all?
I'll also be purchasing a 17-40MM Wide or the 16-35MM Wide since I love the way they shoot.
Thanks!

I'm wondering if it's even worth it starting out in a 50D or if I should just take the T1i with a really nice wide angle lense.
I was taking some good shots with my XTi & 17-40MM lens like the picture below

BY the way ... I still dont know what the lens # means lol

The 16-35 F2.8 is an amazing lens! I had a 40D and it was great so I can't imagine the 50D being any less impressive. I'll be staying in newport beach for the drift contest this weekend and actually have 2 430EX flashes for sale if you'd like to pick one up. I don't really use em' so name a price and it's yours.

That's true but I guess it's more for an investment. Get a good camera so I don't have to have better. :P Even though there is better than the 50D

The way I see it ... What's a few hundred more gonna do? Since it's priced at $800 I've seen - body only
Yeah that was at Hot Import Nights LA last year
Damn bro I just saw this post now sorry - are they still for sale?Last edited by CDP; 04-11-2009 at 03:34 AM.

If you are upgrading from an XTi, you should go for a xxD series which is 40/50D
Theres no point to upgrade from XTi to XSi/Ti since you will be using another entry level chassis with ergonomics that are not suited for manual shooting (no dedicated wheel for aperture) and you will be restricted with a slow frame per second rate again.
As for lens, all those lenses are good choices. Someone mentioned the 16-35L but that lens is more than twice its f/4 17-40L counterpart. Unless you know how you can make use of that extra stop, I would say that you should pocket the extra money.

plus its so much easier to lug the entry level bodies around, and unless your a pixel counter you can hardly tell the difference

the extra coulple hundred you can take a few extra photog classes to improve the guy behind the camera
just my.02
even a friend that rocks a 1D likes to use my XS and is also thinking about pickin up a T1i
just a thought
