Question Nikon D3000 vs Nikon cool pix..wtf?

About a year and a half to 2yrs ago I bought a Nikon D3000 that could shoot 10.2 mega pixles. Paid around 4 to 500 retail.

    Today I was on bestbuy and found a Nikon coolpix s3300 that can do 16MP for 139.00!! ( Nikon - Coolpix S3300 16.0-Megapixel Digital Camera - Silver - 26309 )

Has the technology really changed that much to where a almost-200 dollar camera can do what a 500 dollar camera did just a few years ago?

The camera is still "new" in that it has taken less than 100 pictures. I'm thinking about selling it.

    Bad idea?

    Are you serious right now?

You realize that megapixles are only resolution and not necessarily quality?

A Dslr uses a much larger image sensor and will no matter what reproduce a much higher quality shot and much better ISO proformance.

Yes. Megapixles determine how sharp a photograph appears, right? So I thought MP and quality went hand in hand.

false, your lens is the determining factor for sharpness.

Now if you're making a print that's huge (poster size) then you want a higher pixel count (higher resloution).

What makes a good picture is quality glass a good sensor/processor combo and person that knows how to use a camera.

keep the D3000 and buy some good lens for it. and MP dont really matter unless you are making huge prints
