Drunk Driver crossed the yellow line and hit my dads truck
Two nights ago a Drunk driver crossed the center line while my dad was driving home. My dad was able to pull slightly off the road but he couldnt go that far, the drunk driver took off his mirror. Inches from a head on collision in a 45mph zone. As if that was not bad enough, the Drunk driver fled the scene. My dad tried to chase him, but the guy was too far gone. He collected the mirrors from both trucks, and after pieceing it togather, we found a part number that led us to find out the drunk driver was in a Ford F-150, black, model year 1997-2003.
Im asking for your help if your in the Buffalo area to keep your eyes open for that vehicle with the missing mirror, and if you have anything to do with Ford in the area, or any independent service shops. Please look out for the truck getting the new mirror.
Thank you so much everyone.

call dealers and body shops in the area and ask if they have any f150's with the DS mirror missing for those yrs. if they ask why, tell them the truth, usually they'll help

I'm glad your dad is OK. Things could have been much, much worse. I assume you have contacted the local police? They will tell you there's not much they can do, because they didn't catch the driver in the act, however, it's still a good idea to report it.

It might be better that you didn't catch the guy drunk, a few years ago my buddy got into an accident with a drunk driver and happened to go to high school with the cop who showed up and he said if the guy was dui the insurance company makes you sue him directly as they wont cover a drunk driver. I dont know all the ramifications but thats how it was broken down to me...plus trying to catch a driver fleeing an accident means nothing anymore.
I had a guy sideswipe me so I called 911 and they said unless he was physically threatening me theres nothing they can do until he stops, I said well I can tell you turn by turn where I am and send a cop and she said they dont work like that unless I could flag down an officer myself...I couldnt believe it, I called Geico right after and they said dont bother following him just write down his license plate number so I did and then filed a report at my local police station and they treated me like a criminal, I wont go into detail but it was a horrible experience...glad to hear your dad is ok, hope your situation goes better than mine.1979 Cutlass

same thing happened to my buddies and I here in Dallas. Long story short it was late at night and I pulled up next to my buddies at a red light to talk, as the light was still red I see a truck coming fast, I told them to drive but it was to late. The drunk ran right into the back of them impairing both vehicles. My friends were ok but the drunk could barely say his name let alone be driving. I called DPD and they said if no one was injured then they cant send an officer. I hung up then called right back yelling and screaming that there were blood and bodies everywhere. 2 minutes later a cop came and arrested the a hole. It is terrible how city dispatch can be.
Im just glad your pops is ok!Last edited by Sheldon07; 06-27-2011 at 01:08 AM.

Best of luck with hunting this guy down. Call all the Ford dealers in the area, talk to the parts guys. Talk with some body shops too.
A few years ago the same thing happened to me in my Volvo. I pulled off onto the shoulder and barely missed getting hit. Middle of nowhere, country road, I was doing 70+, I'm sure the drunk was too.

The police were called and did an accident report, they can't do much else. I've personally called all the Ford dealers within 20 miles and Monday morning I'm starting my call to independent body shops.
Thanks for everyone's kind words. I think we have a good chance to find the Guy, there's only 4-5 bars in the area I live and in the country no one goes very far to drink

I hope you find that SOB. I don't understand why some people risk the lives of others by Driving Drunk. One night I was driving home with my mom and I saw a truck in front of me swerving left and right violently. At first i thought the driver was doing something, like texting or something that was distracting him. But as the swerving became constant, it hit me, the driver was crazy drunk. I told my mom to call 911, but for some reason we were nervous about calling 911. To this day, I really wish we had done it. A month ago, a drunk teen killed 3 of his friends by deciding to drive drunk back home from a party. He crashed his Camry into some trees. He is now facing years in prison.
