Sunday, June 26th - Drive and Show for a Hero
Last year a very close family friend, Marine Corps Sgt Christopher Hrbek, was killed during active duty in Afghanistan; While on patrol he stepped on an IED and was killed instantly.
I can't tell all of you how much this has devastated his family and friends - Chris was a really good person, and a community icon. Multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, A volunteer firefighter in Westwood when he wasn't deployed. Believe me when I tell you he would have fit in here perfectly with his sense of humor and love for cars.
This year, I am helping his family organize a car show that will benefit his scholarship fund. We have reserved the park in the town that he grew up in, Westwood, NJ, for June 26th. For those of us that are not 'car show' type of people, I want to organize a little run up through Harriman or something before hand and end up at the park for the show. Adjacent to the park is a restaurant called The Iron Horse where we will have brunch/lunch.
You can check out his site for more info on him -
Sgt. Christopher R. Hrbek
So don't forget - Sunday - June 26th - This is the day after LaBella Machina in Poconos, so it should be a problem even if you wanted to attend that as well, as I will probably be there on Saturday, too.
Attached is the flyer and poster with some additional info.
$65 For car and driver, $50 per passenger - Includes lunch at the Iron Horse, gift bag, door prizes, entrance into 50/50 for the day, T-shirt and some other goodies. No need to pre-pay, check or cash at the park is fine. ALL proceeds will go to Chris' scholarship fund.
There is no charge for spectators, so feel free to come along even if you don't have a car!
As indicated in the flyer, e-mail WestwoodCarShow@aol.com to register.
Feel free to PM me or post any questions you may have.
I hope you will join us!
Regards,
MJB

Speed has nothing to do with charity.
In this case it's all about having a variety...Who wants to look at 50 if the same cars?
Bring it. I still remember that TV commercial of the Stealth TT...It was in a warehouse or something, and then it launches and all 4 tires spin. Wanted one so bad...
Stealth TT, Buick Grand National, Calloway turbo Corvette. Some of my favs growing up.

Really warms the heart that you are doing something like that - hats to you.
However, my condolences to his friends and family for their loss.

now i gotta find that commercial, i've never seen it nor heard of it...they don't really spin em like a burn out, you can get them to spin maybe 2 revolutions before getting grip.
gnx, i'd love one.
i'm def in for this.- Dave

Since I've had a few questions on this - No, you do not have to do the drive to participate in the car show.
If you'd like to head straight to the show at ~10:30, that's fine, you can check in and get your gift bag there as well.
Hope to see some of you there!
E-mail WestwoodCarShow@aol.com to register.
Thanks,
