Default In need of Headlight Painting advice

So my headlights look like $hit... somewhat normal wear for the V platform..it never was that bad but since i have moved down south the sun has really chewed them up and accelerated their decay.. i want to paint a black border around the headlight trim covering up the grey and the scratches... also i was thinking about some eyelids like this..

my question is what should i use to prep the headlights and what should i use as far as paint.. i was thinking VHT niteshades but also Krylon fusion for plastic.. i really don't know i'm more of a wrencher then a painter..
    heres the damage:

this is a pic of the peeling of the top layer.. it looks a lot worse in person.. people who dont know think that someone actually keyed my headlights lol

Will you would have to do the "joey mod" remove the the cover(plastic or glass) by heating it up and paint the inside

    Joey mod

or are you talking about smoking the headlights?

have you tried polishing the plastic lens? if you do paint it with a border, won't that get scratched up easily and look worst?

i would suggest either polishing the light you have or get new ones. i have all my headlights clear bra'ed.

I dont think that would look good, in my experience the paint won't hold up and it will end up looking like crap.. that happened to my tails

You can buff out the scratches. mothers makes a kit i think...

on the topic of painting... NO!

The best way is to either paint match a vinyl decal, or pay a body shop to fiberglass some eyelids. I deal mostly with imports, so this is common.
