I feel compelled to add this for some reason. If anyone doesnt like it "oh well" BUT its still relevant from the posts i had read. I am not getting into a flame war just giving my opinion why certain events should have not have certain cars. I am not naming any cars previously mentioned but just stating something people arent considering when they are just focusing on the registration part.
Three weeks ago I was on a Bear Mountain drive. While driving on the highway in a spirited fashion, myself and about 8 other exotics. Some "cowboys" would jump in with their non factory high performance cars (Honda's, VW's, Nissan's, you get the idea). Well these cars were mixing in with us and driving erratically and in a way that i thought to myself at one point "just b/c this guy has V-Tec and a lowering kit doesnt mean he should be with us" I dont trust his non performance designed car for sh*t.
Last Year I attempted to join the turkey run with my Buick Grand National. thinking
It's Rare (Check)
Its Faster than most in this event (Check)
Do people like to see it cruising down the highway (Check)
Can I pay the entrance fee (Check)
all things I thought would allow me to get in. False. Was i ticked off at first yes. But after doing the run and taking the Bentley Azure I realized why I was better off not having the buick. It didnt handle the way I would need, Didnt have an upgraded Braking system designed for highway stopping, and as much as i wanted to not admit it "it wasnt a car for this type of event"
People that have 50k+ exotics/performance cars would like to know the cars around them (regardless of the drivers in them) are "Capable" cars and designed for this type of driving. Yeah i had a 10s 1/4 mile car but it didnt handle anywhere near what I am taking this year on the TR.
Anyone that has been on a run and/or spirited drive with their friends and other members of whichever groups or boards you are active on and know exactly the feeling you get when you are all crusing and a Civic/Accord/Maxima.... anything people modify that isnt designed for handling from the factory jumps in. Its almost like a lump in your throat and the hope they get off the next exit. This is certainly NOT the same feeling you get when a Vette, Lambo or Ferrari jumps in. When that happens you say hmm I wonder who that is and typically dont mind if they hang all the way til the end of the run to introduce yourself.
as for the Deloreon, its rare, its exotic but he also isn't going to be driving 100+ trying to hang like some other people with modified average cars would. That car will hang back with the "slower" bunch.
Seth puts alot of work into these events and is one of the few people that proactively does this. I respect him and would respect anyone else who wanted to put on a event wether my current car does qualify or not. Rules are Rules and just because i didnt agree with one doesnt mean its right or wrong.
To this day there are events/car shows and such that we all dont "fit in" with like an earlier post about camaro meets not inviting mustangs and just because this is one that some cars may not fit in with doesnt mean they should bash it.
There is no Preview post and I was speaking my mind and thoughs as they were in my head so however it reads.... it reads. Getting off of my Soap Box now.
thank you
