DJ Premier
I'm sure we have some Gang Starr fans here, but for those of you who are unfamiliar with Premo's beats (he's produced for Jay-Z and Nas so I'm sure you've all at least heard one of them), a little tribute to one of the best to ever do it...

One of the sickest verses I've ever heard care of Inspectah Deck...
Big L at his finest (weird anime video but only one I could find)...
With M.O.P. Bananas beat...
With K-Ci and Jo-Jo...
One of the best lyrical Hip-Hop stories...
Straight heat...
Gang Starr at their best...

I agree with you: Premier is one of the best and responsible for some of the hardest classics!
Here's another oldie but goodie from Premier:

The only producer(s) that are there w/ DJ Premier would be the Rza (in his prime) and The Bomb Squad (Public Enemy.) But when you think of the golden age of hip hop, it will have a DJ Premier beat.
Jeru the Damaja "Ain't the Devil Happy" (one of my faves)
Nas "NY State of Mind 2" (yes, the original is perfect, possibly the best rap song ever, but this is still a masterpiece)

Haha agreed! I've got a bunch of Premo piano loops on my brain now; not a bad thing to have stuck in your head.

Chuck,
Definitely, RZA pre-Bobby Digital was tough. The intro to "Winter Warz" is one of the craziest beats I've ever heard; too bad that never became an actual track.Boost Is Better

KRS-1 is not one of my faves, but Return of the Boom Bap is a classic album (mostly produced by Premier.)
Outta Here (this clip will do the bass no justice)
MCs Act Like They Don't Know (his delivery really gets on my nerves but, oh, the beat)

Wow, it's good to see a board where people like good music. I posted Premier over on another board a few months ago and no one responded.
Here's some more premier:
