Very cool renditions of one of my favorite songs. What kind of instrument is that, looks like a mixture of a banjo and a sitar. And who is the background vocalist to right?

I don't know much about them. I came across it on Youtube. The instrument seems to be a mixture of Sitar and Santoor. The guy plays it like a master (Farhad Besharati is the name that appears on the video - either Persian or Pakistani?), he must be famous.
