i had progressive for my street bikes and then switched over to state farm which was significantly lower.
also if you wish, you can take the bike off certain coverages during the winter months and just keep fire/ theft to save a few bucks.
250cc is a small motor should insurance should be fairly low. i would skip collision but get comp.

Well, up here in BC, (Bring Cash) for 6 months of riding insurance, and 12 months of fire/theft, its just a tad over $800 for an '02 Heritage Classic....

YZF 125, I'm 20 years old and currently paying £1500 a year fully comp.
Clean record with 2 years no claims, Locked up, Alarmed, Garaged at night. Cheapest i could find. If anything happens i also have to pay the first £500.

I just bought a 2011 Ninja 250R with 300 miles on it 2 days ago and went on the progressive website last night to get a quote and the cheapest possible option that they gave me was $548/year. I'm 30 year old and have a clean record. I do however live in Manhattan so I assume that's the major reason for this insane quote?

I got an insane quote from Progressive before I bought my bike too. I know its Apples and Oranges but here is the example.
2005 ZX6R 636 23 years old(at the time, right before my 24th birthday) few tickets midwest full coverage multiple car/renters discount full coverage 250/500k limits(high for a bike but you cant have a policy with lower limits on one vehicle).
Progressive was around $2000 a year
State Farm was $700 a year
Now Im 26 everything is the same but in October some tickets will drop off. No idea what Progressive is but my State Farm is $275 a year.
Shop around some!!!!

I use Grundy... yes, the collector car insurance. they do bikes too. Much, much better quotes than all other "normal" insurance companies.
