Default Help me buy my next ride

Well, I'm in a position where I have some cash I can spent on a bike, so would like some input regarding maintenance cost, comfort, reliability, and just plain 'ol opinions.

I've previously owned 2 gsxr's, and am looking to stay away from a full street bike and more into a "street fighter" style ride. V-twin is preferred, but not required.

My main goal is used, under $5k, and reliable. I will be using this to commute ~40mi each way, but only in pleasant weather (no rain, slow, sleet etc.).

I'm seriously looking at the Buell XB9 (s/ss/sst), Suzuki SV 650, Honda 919, or a Ducati Monster.

    Thought? Ideas? Input?

I have a Monster and it sucks on the highway. Too much wind. For longer trips I ride my BMW R1100S which is great at high speed, but crappy in the city. So it really depends on what kind of 40 miles it is.

i had a yamaha fz6 which is in your price range, and a very comfortable yet sporty bike. My first ride was from Hollywood to San Jose, CA with no troubles and no soreness.

You should find the Honda pleasant and reliable. Speaking of Honda and v-twins might want to consider picking up an RC51. You can find em fairly cheap, and converting it to a street fighter would be rather simple.
The SV is ok for learning how to ride, or a track play toy. Might find it a bit disappointing for everyday commutes. Stay far away from Buell. Avoid the monsters unless you just want to piss away your money.

EDIT: Something else to consider is picking up a 1000rr 04/05 that has been slid down the road and only has some plastic rash or other minimal blems. You'll be able to pick it up cheap and convert to street fighter for virtually nothing. Plus they look pretty good fightered out.

The commute is 98% highway, utilizing the HOV lane.

Dirango: I didn't know about the FZ6, only the R-6. I'll have to look around!

FXbikes: I'd love an RC51! Even though its a full fairing bike, the v-twin sound and performs amazing! Good thought!

Why stay away from the Buells? Any specifics on that?

J@WB: I always have my eye out for a z1000!
