Like others have said if this is your first bike I would highly recommend getting a smaller bike (if it isn't then get the daytona 675 i said earlier). I'm currently riding an 88 ninja 250. I've had it almost a year and have been down twice already, once to gravel and the other I was an idiot. Both times I went down I just picked the bike up and rode home, went about my normal business. I didn't care what the fairings were like as long as everything worked it was good. You'll want that kind of luxury for your first bike.

600cc "whatever brand" is what id go with...much more forgiving.
If you get a 1000cc "whatever brand" you will never be a able to ride the machine to its full capability and the learning curve is on another level.
