    Default Helmet for my wife

So my wife is getting a Honda Rebel 250 for her to ride around town. I'd like to surprise her with a nice helmet. Suggestions? I know nothing here other than more expensive probably means better protection and greater comfort. The brands I am familiar with are Shoei, Arai, Bell. What others are worth checking out? Looking at Full face or "classic" open face style.

    Thoughts?

Oh, yeah, she has her motorcycle license and has taken all the safety classes, etc.

Shoei and Arai are the most common and have great ratings, but it honestly depends on the shape/size of her head...Best thing to do is bring her to the store and try each of them on so she can see for herself what feels/fits the best...

Even if you buy her the "best" most expesnsive helmet out there, if it does't fit right, mine as well wear no helmet..

go to a cycle gear and see what fits her head...
different brands of helmets seem to be made for different shapes of heads.

Got it. Thanks for the advice. Looks like a gift cert is the way to go so she can pick it out.

    best idea!

having a helmet that does not fit right sucks.

but be sure to check for snell and dot stickers.

I would go with a full face since it's your wife and I know I would want my wife wearing only a full face. I took several classes to get certified in properly selling Shoei and Arai helmets and I will say the amount of time and testing both companies do to make sure that it will save your life in a crash is worth spending the extra money.

i had an hjc cl 16 that i loved but then got an Arai vector for $300 ,which is relatively cheap for an arai, and i love the arai so much more than the hjc.. the arai fits my head better and makes it feel like my heads in a big pillow

I can pretty much make a safe bet that I have more helmets than anybody here....and for all the helmets that i have ever tried or own...KBC fits me the best...now its a very cheap helmets compared to my arais, suams, sharks, but it just feels so nice.
