    Default How do I get my motorcycle permit and eventually a motorcycle license?

    Hi All;

    The DMV website doesn't explain it very clearly at all. I just want to know what I need to do in order to get my motorcycle permit and then a motorcycle license!

    Regards

    where do you live?

    Here in illinois all you do is go take a written for your permit, then the on the road for a permit... well, not on the road, its a road like course

    same in FL. i would suggest a call to the DMV. they can clear it up pretty easily and you wont waste a trip down there.

    be sure to check out the free rider classes as well.

    If you ask anyone, MSF is the best!

    while on the topic of msf, they can also issue you your license, and you do not need to get the permit first(again, this was in illinois, so i am unsure about other states)

    I've been riding for 30 years and have done both the basic and advanced MSF courses. I would highly recommend starting there. In Colorado having a MSF course certificate gets you an insurance discount, so overtime it pays for itself.

    as said by everyone...MSF..

    when signing up...ask for whatever type of bike you are interested in...they have sportbikes (ninja 250s) and cruisers (rebel 250s)

    many colleges and universities have their own MSF programs which are usually free or only like $20. I would suggest looking around your local area to find the closest classes.
