    Default New to motorcycles

    Hey there.

I finally got an appointment for my CA M1 permit.

Have any pointers for someone new to motorcycles?

Mind you, I plan on taking a MSF course; I have to anyway, as I'm under 21.

How did you guys start out? Thanks!

    Alright alright-

One of the most important tips that I wish someone would have nailed into my head when I first started riding....

ALWAYS COVER THE REAR BRAKE DURING ACCELERATION

NEVER forget this. If the front end starts getting light, ease out of the throttle and give the rear brake some love.

Now you know. My first bike was a little bit too much for a beginner (It was a late model 600cc supersport bike), and as Im sure you could guess- this tip would have saved me from totaling it LOL - and to think: I wanted a 1000 as my first, but settled for the 600... you're not superman, youre not special, and it doesnt matter that youve ridden some dirt bikes before. Stay reserved when picking a first bike

I dont even use the rear brake unless i am on the track.
thats only when i am "backing it in" ....fun as hell lifting the back wheel up a few mm at 100mph plus and placing it exactly where you want it to give you the best turnin ever.

lol Someone with as much experience as you though, I understand it.

Backin in is the sickest sh.it ever!!! I love it. I cant do it myself, but seeing someone do it well is out of this world.

The tip was aimed at beginners, where it is most definitely valid. You're looking at a living testimonial lol

Theres a sick video out there of a guy on a white GSXR & R1 going NUTSSS on the track (backing in) I cant find it though
