All I can say is target fixation is a B****! This happened yesterday, I came around a corner a bit too fast (90-100mph) and ended up flipping myself and the bike a few times. Somehow I managed to walk away (PROPER GEAR), but later discoverd that that I had a cervical spine fracture (not affecting spinal cord). Luckily I was with a few of my buddies one of them had a truck and was able to take home me and my wrecked bike. Like I said this could have ended much worse than it did given the fact that there were about 50 huge rocks on the ditch/hill. The bike as you can see below is pretty banged up, but it CAN be fixed. Looks like the following stuff will need to be replaced, all in all i might end up spending a little over a grand. A month in this neck brace and i should be good to go.

    *All new fairings
    *Rear sub-frame
    *throttle assembly
    *Rear brake peg
    *New rear rims (got bent)
    *Front fairing bracket
    *brake cables

I have a good friend that rides a r6, definately would not lie about this story. Was riding down the interstate, some kids threw a shopping cart into the street and he hit it going about 110mph at night. Wrecked the bike, people stopped and he asked a guy to bring him his bike. The guy did and he hoped on it and drove home, about 5 minutes away. Then drove himself to the hospital in his car. He had a broken collar bone and arm.

crashed racing this past april at the track... highside in the turns... still not driving yet, but gear certainly does its job, well for the most part.

I'm a rider, so take this lightly...

re-read all the stories in this thread, then re-read your statement. Ponder it, and get back to me.

my story...or what I remember of it

cbr929rr, had the bike for about 3-4 weeks before I went on my first ride with buddies. Was following a few guys and had a few behind me, middle of the pack I suppose. About halfway through the ride road drops in, crosses a bridge into a right hander. Right hand curve tightens as you are exiting, which I did not know as it was my first trip on this particular road. At the time, I "knew" I wouldnt be able to navigate the turn at my speed so I grabbed front brake, not too hard, but hard enough to mess up a new rider. Stood the bike up and went straight off the road. There was sufficient runoff, but once again, inexperienced rider cant handle a little off-road adventure. Went into the woods...and lights out. Woke up with the rest of the group around me, half on phone with 911, other half attending to me. I tried to get up, so they tell me, but I couldnt. What seems like 5 minutes later I'm at the hospital (road was about 40 minutes away). ER nurse asks if I hit my head, I replied no, buddy holds up my bashed in helmet and says "oh yeah he did". I'm baffled. Hurried back to ER, cat scans, x-rays, you name it.
Ended up with 2 fractured vertebrae, stitches in chin, concussion, etc. Spent the next 4-5 days in bed. Refused my pain meds as to not let my mom know exactly how much pain I was in, haha, dumb! She already knew cause she had to help me out of the bed to use the restroom, haha. I was still out in right field.

Few weeks later, bike was fixed (front forks and brake rotors, left the rash as a momento) and started riding again. It made me a better rider, a smarter rider. After my wreck I started reading and learning more about how to ride properly.

MORAL: ride at your own pace! Although I wasnt trying to keep up with the lead pack, I was trying not to hold anyone up behind me. Should have just waved them by and caught up at the next stopsign. Live and learn, but most importantly, learn to live.
