I don't see how they can claim world first. Swiss/Italian designer Franco Sbarro pioneered hubless wheel/drive technology ~20 years ago.
Too lazy to post pics, here's a link with some info:

Edit: late to the party, just saw pure sin's post!

This bike has been around for while, or at least it's sistership. I saw it around 04 in Daytona. I believe it was blue and silver at the time. Amen Motorcycles
Billy Lane also had a hubless bike at that time as well however they worked different. The bike referenced here worked by having what amounted to a rubber boat trailer roller that was placed behind the seat and pressed against the rear tire to make it roll.
This guy has alway been very innovative with bikes, and was way ahead of everyone else but never managed to gain any real exposure during the chopper hay day 5-6 years ago. He never really had much of a personality.... a misunterstood artist perhaps.

Actually, Lane and Amen battled for years on who came up with the concept. They were good friends for a long time who probably came up with the idea together, but who knows. Lane is in prison now and that bike has been out for years as well. The neat thing is it uses a Helicopter bearing to make the wheel function. Neat engineering.
