Anyone have the Ducati Hypermotard?
Anyone have a Ducati Hypermotard? The bike has always interested me. I've had an 05 R6 in the past, but found it pretty uncomfortable for longer trips. I'm interested in the Ducati as a possible work commuter...on sunny nice days of course
My commute is 41 miles each way and it takes me about an hour to drive...30 or so of those miles are all highway.
Anyone have any opinions on the bike?
Thanks!

One of my customers has one, after him letting me ride it, I fell in love with it.

It's a ridiculously fun bike. Made me want to do naughty things when I rode it. Like an Ariel Atom on two wheels. That being said, I wouldn't consider it for a highway commute as my primary use.

why is that? Is it too uncomfortable for that ride?
It's not something I would take everyday, but maybe 1-2 times a week.Daily Driver: 2008 Mini S

had one that i traded in on a streetfighter. to me the hypermoto never filled a role:
too heavy for a supermoto
too slow for a sportbike
not as comfy as a sport classic (some say otherwise)
who the hell pus a single sided swingarm on a super moto bike.
some alternatives that are light years better (other than the brutale, I dont own any other of these but have ridden them all)
sxv 5.5 or the 4.5 (the 4.5 is fun but not on the hwy)
mv agusta brutale (not a fake sumo bike like the hyper is but is way faster, more fun on the hwy)
husqvarna sm510 or or 630.
you might want to look at some sport nakeds as well...riding a supermoto on the hwy is not fun...geared too short. and will be even less comfy than a 05 r6.

In regards to the SXV models these are really track bikes that are street legal. A lot of people go ahead and de-restrict them, but then you better know how to wrench them yourself (or be prepared to become bestest friends with your local service center). Naked bikes with a small or semi-front fairing I think will be the best for what you intend to use it for. The Hyper (and most motards for the matter) are bikes that like to be ridden hard and can be in a casual way (where as in order to fully enjoy and exploit your R6's potential you'd need a track). You should consider Monsters (695 / 1100), Aprilia Shiver 750, and the jap's have a model for anything everything (kawasaki just released a new 1000, forget the acronym, also Yamaha's Fazer selection, and Honda Hornets)

hypermotard and commuting comfort don't really mix well.. and i hope you're prepared to pay +$1000 every 6k miles on service.
Audaces fortuna iuvat.
