Ducati 749....might buy one...
Anyone know this bike? Comments?
An old friend is hurting for money and offered me a flat black 2005.
I've ridden a 748 and a 999 but not the 749...

pretty expensive to mantain compared to a 848...but if you are getting a deal take it...at worst you can sell it for a profit...very comfy bike to ride for being a supersport..

Go to Ducati.ms - The Ultimate Ducati Forum for all that you need to know. It is a myth that they are expensive to maintain. I have a 2006 999 and I have done all required maintenance at the dealer. The total is about $800 in 3 years. This includes timing belt replacement, which is due every 2 years or 12,000 miles. Also, the bike has been absolutely reliable. Not a darn thing ever went wrong with it for the 3 years I had it. The 749 is essentially a smaller cc 999. They are obviously less powerful, but fast and brutally rapid in the twisties. Also, they are less common than the 848's, 1098's and the 1198's; although, the design is love it or hate it. For what it's worth, I'd say go and get! You will not regret it.

if it's an 05, have the belts ever been changed?
it's similar to the 999, but down about 20 hp and no steering damper.

Sounds like it is a 749Dark. Great bikes. I had an 06'. Not one single problem ever with it for the two years I owned it. Not the fastest bike out there but more than fast enough for what you'll use it for. I felt it had more power down low vs. the Gixxers of the world, but I'm by no means a pro. Handled like a dream and the matte black paint makes the bike look just sick. As someone earlier stated, Ducati.ms is the source for you.
$5k sounds about right for it. I miss mine!!!

nice..that's exactly what it looks like
I've always owned japanese bikes but the 748 I road back in the day was a lot of fun...super tourquey and fun to throw around.
I don't ride like I used to so having a liter bike isn't the end all be all for me.
I will likely get this bike.

if you plan on keepin it for awhile then i would say yeah. if not then maybe not bc they seem to be a hard sell vs the 996,999,1098 etc

what kind of miles are on the bike? I had a similar bike.2006 999r...and my experience is about twice what you paid, at the duc dealer here (eximports). ps...a 848 will blow a 749 out of the water in performance, and is about 25 percent cheaper to mantain..ask your duc dealer about the cost comparo...I did a side by side (including hours needed) on my 999r and my 1098r......1098r came out to $1300 cheaper if i ran both bikes for 10k miles a year....
there is a reason why 999's and 749's are rare...no one bought them lol...those two almost tanked ducati remember...two reason being the funny looks including the swingarm, and the cost to mantain it...reason why they made the 1098, and 848 so much cheaper to mantain. and they finally came with radial brakes...
To the OP...save your money and get a newer jap 600 for the money or a 750...or spend a bit more and get a 848..but thats just IMO...get what you like....and be safe.
