.:: Aprilia RSV-R Mille 1000 - Opinions ? ::.
Hey guys,
I have the oppurtunity to pick up a used Aprilia as stated in the title. I have been looking to buy something so that I may park the M, keep it garaged and keep the miles off of it. I figured a bike should be a good daily considering I only max 10 miles a day, and only really go from home to work/gym. It belongs to a friend of mine, and is in great condition only needing a right side brake lever.
What would you say a fair deal on this bike is, and what are your opinions on it as opposed to buying a gsxr, ninja, cbr, etc?

The thing about used bikes is you never really know what the guy did with it. Coincidentally I had to replace my right brake lever on my Shiver the other day and it cost me $140. So parts aren't cheap. And Milles hold their value pretty well too, but I'd say this one shouldn't be worth more than $5k. Try to get him down to $4700. GL

You will enjoy the Aprilia far more than any Honda, Suzuki, Kawi, etc. Parts and Service aren't as readily available but well worth the hassle. I have a Tuono 1000R and absolutely love it. They sound amazing, really powerful and a lot sexier. Buy it and you won't be disappointed.

what year and miles? I cant tell the year by the color on the older prillers...
if you get this..upgrade the whole master cyl instead of just the brake lever
you can get the brembo rcs (switchable between 18 and 20 mm ratio if i recall) or the ap racing ones but those are harder to find...
prillers are nice bikes...best place to get stuff for them is AF1.com
I see he has an exhaust (tigcraft??) so make sure it has a power commander
and later on if you get bored...there are big bore kits for this bike that really wake it up...and if you want another alternative to this bike that looks pretty similar and handles a bit better...honda rc51. or if you want something real cheap but badass sounding....... tl1000r
and you should not pay more than 4500 for that priller ( I was offered an 06 factory for 5500)
any questions let me know....I have a buddy who knows prillers in and out and has some pretty trick ones including a nera........I stick to jap inlines and ducs

Yeah I can understand that...however, the guy I will buy from is a good friend of mine and will remain one, so I know its history...140 is probably pricey for a brake lever for a bike, however after buying parts for my car I will gladly pay that at the discount I am getting the bike for. Thank you for the information, do you happen to have a link to the brake lever by chance?
Thank you for that, I am hoping I agree with you
Awesome, thank you for that. It is this bike, or an E30 bmw for a daily, something similar.
Well scripted, I appreciate all of that. Do you happen to have a ballpark figure for the brake master cylinder upgrades? It is a 2001 and mileage I am unsure, but I know that it is considerably low for this particular bike. I would love a ducati, but the deal in front of me is currently for this one...I am looking around right now, and spotted some race spec fairing/tail combos that really light up the bike...so may consider somethign like that as well. Thanks for your help

I think they are around 340...but you can find them for around 250-300 new most places this is not just the lever...the whole front brake master cyl best brake upgrade ever when combined with some ss lines. ....this is a better bike for a daily rider than a duc...and I am sure duc are "me too" bikes where you live...older prillers are a bit rare.. make sure the race fairings with the tail lets you access everything and has the tail lights on them...

Thank you for all of the info
The bike has 15k miles, and I can pick it up for close to nothing so I think I will buy it.
My other question, is on a local bike. Its a 1998 Ducati 748 (my favorite ducati), its Ducati Yellow and needs a few odds and ends...Clear title. It needs a front tire, radiator, and a couple of other small parts here and there. I can buy the bike for $2000, what do you guys think?

I'd check that... the bike pictured is not a 2001.
I've had 2 2001 Aprilia Mille's and the panel between the bottom of the tank and the seat is different.
Black 2001's were flat black.
This looks like the previous model year 1999-2000. In 2001 there were tweaks to the body panels and also the frame geometry is different, the engine is mounted lower in the 2001 and up models improved handling was claimed from the tweaks.Last edited by Choptop; 12-29-2009 at 07:16 PM.

on the flip side....
the Aprilia Mille is a GREAT bike. it wont have the HP numbers of similar model year bikes, but its a damn fine bike that can be summed up with two words, "confidence inspiring". You push it hard on the track and it just soaks it up. With the stock geometry its dead nuts stable at full tilt boogie. Mid corner corrections dont bother it. Tons of torque and lots of great grunt out of the corners.
The motor feels and sounds GREAT. The fit an finish is great. The engine is artwork.
downsides:
Batteries for this model are weak. If the bike doesnt start fairly quickly the battery can be drawn down and it will reset the dash and info (not milage). Learn to get your bike running quickly.
they run hot. 210-220 is not uncommon. I would always shut my bike off, let the fans run for a minute or two, then start it again to circulate the cooler water from the radiator into the engine.
parts can be hard to come by. Fortunately there are some GREAT dealers in the US that usually have the part in stock. Sometimes you have to wait for Luigi to make one back in Italy and hve it shipped over. This can take some time.
All in all a dead sexy bike to own and ride.Send Lawyers, Guns and Money
