Ducati 749 and 999 thoughts
So i recently sold my CBR600rr and i really want to get a ducati. I am looking into early 2000's 749's and 999's. I was just wondering if any current or previous owners have any good things to say about these bikes, or if there are any problems that should steer me away from these two bikes. Thanks in advance!

The 749s & 999s are a lot more reliable and rideable than the 8's and 6's but if you think the undertail exhaust on your cbr was hot get ready to singe the hairs off your asshole. The twins don't like being rode around town in 5th or 6th gear at 30-40mph like the il4's do. The 848 and 1198 are better but sometime becomes a pain in the ass in traffic.
If your going to get an old bike because of a personal reason ie looks, nostalgia, etc (not because of price) get at least an "S" for the better suspension makes a huge diff on the old ducs. The "R's" also aren't deperciating so maby pick one of those up.Last edited by TheYoungConnoisseur; 08-17-2012 at 07:17 PM.

I had both a 748s and 749R. The 749R is a more reliable bike, better value with Ohlins, larger Brembo brakes and full carbon fiber body work and better handling all the way around. Just be aware that service on both bikes is almost double compared to the newer models. Can never go wrong with Ducatis!

Can I ask what your price range is? Any reason you are looking at those two as opposed to an 848?

I've been looking to sell my 848 since I got the 1198. I'll PM you the details. It's higher mileage than most, but well within your price range
Edit: I guess I'll have to wait til your post count gets higher before I can PM you lolLast edited by boostedM; 08-19-2012 at 05:36 AM.

I myself was looking into a Ducati and my first choice was the 749/999. The 848/1098/1198 are nice bikes but I find myself drawn more the the 749/999. Maybe the fact that it looks different than anything else? I know the first time I sat on one it was like Cloud 9. Great bikes, felt comfortable even with me being 6'4. Ill be purchasing one soon.
