I guess this cold weather has no one thinking of their yard. But Deuce, congrats on moving into your new house!

One of the most popular choices for starting a yard from scratch is to make Mulch Beds around the home, and even in certain spots in the yard. It creates a nice focal point, and great transition from the grass since it is roughly the same level. (I assume most of your yard is flat).

The next level of landscaping could bring in Brick Walkways and Retaining Flower Beds especially if you have or want to create level changes. Walkways could lead to Seating Areas where you can place a simple outdoor bench or table with chairs.

If you want to go all out, I would introduce Sunshading, Patios, Water Features, and Lighting in addition to what was mentioned above. Some of these depend on how big your yard is and what you want to really use it for (such as outdoor dining, living, or cooking spaces, et cetera).

    Good Luck on your yard!

Spending 5,000 to fix my front yard after the road crews did a craptastic job! They laid sod over construction cones and other rubbish, plus my lawn is like the surface of the moon with craters and shiet.
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
we're gonna do what they say can't be done.
