Any of you guys members? I'm starting to get interested in this - and would like to chat about the local options. I'm specifically interested in Medinah., but open to discussions of all.
    Thx

The only country club you should join is Autobahn!

Two years ago I was on a big hunt for the perfect club and played pretty much everyone in the northern burbs several times. What I decided is that we have soo many good courses in the area there was no reason to settle for just one. If I didnt have a pool and live in the glen perhaps I would have joined sunset based on its proximity and facility.

Let me know where you are located and I'll see what information I have on cc in the area. If the club is too far you'll never go. Also let me know what you are looking for in terms of activities (golf, tennis, pool etc).

Good news is that with the economy the way it is some places no longer have wait lists and some have even considered initiation fee reductions.

If you're closer to the south end of Chicago, check out Olympia Fields. 2 courses (held US open), tennis, pool, 4-5 restaurants, etc.

I live downtown (gold coast) - and work in the south loop - so hoping to spend no more then 40 mins in the car each way.

The things I'm looking for are -

Absolutely necessary - -Great course (or preferably more than 1), cool non-stuffy crowd, and good poker games / bar in the men's lounge - good restaurant or two

Not necessary but would like - pool / tennis / etc..

I've heard great things about Olympia - anything else you can mention?

    Thanks for the help guys

I go back and forth on this decision almost daily- still can't make up my mind - do you think it's worth the cash / commitment? Or is it best to just take a few lessons, or go drive on a few track days per year?

The ability to just stop what your doing and go there on any given day is what makes the membership worth it for me. All the planning ahead, trying to find a day thats free, spending a weekend away from the family, etc for a scheduled track day can easily go bad with a little rain... You'll spend a LOT more time driving on track by joining, than by doing a track day.

    PM for another option too...

There is nothing like membership to a good CC. It is on my list of things to get done in the next 5 years. Though I am guessing the quality of CC near Chicago, trumps the Peoria area quite easily.
