Hard Rock Hotel Chicago?
I'm going to be in town for a tradeshow from Nov 14-18, and the guys are considering staying at the Hard Rock Hotel. It looks decent based on the website, but I was just wondering if anyone has stayed there, or if there's anyplace else we should look into? It's a business trip so unfortunately we're supposed to keep it to under $150/night...
Also, our event is actually at the McCormick Place, so do you think we'll have trouble getting down there in the mornings? It looks like the hotel is only about 2 miles away, but I'm assuming that's a busy stretch of road.
If anyone wants to meet up for a drink one night then let me know. And if you're in the metalforming industry then I'll be buying all night

Someone else can can chime in here, but that 2 miles is going to be a long trip by cab, not an eternity by any means but not a couple of minutes either. I'd estimate it at 20 mins or so (rough estimate and i could be way off)

I stayed there with my wife a few weekends ago, Great hotel, Mortens Steak House downstairs, the rooms were great..I prefer the W when I am in Chicago but it was a different vibe all together.

I have stayed there before. I would definately go back. Great location on Michigan Ave, 1 block from Millenium Park; a stone's throw. The cab ride is not that far, but I live in NYC so everything is a cab ride away. There are not a lot of hotels near McCormick (Hyatt and Hilton), but if you stay there, you're not near anything and you have to take a cab back in to town. Chicago's transportation system has it pretty together.
I stay at W's a lot and like them. I don't care for the ones in Chicago. The one by the lake is overrated. It used to be a Days Inn and the drop ceilings in the rooms remind me of it. The other one downtown has rooms that are way too small and next to the elevated train.
This hotel is in a restored Art-Deco hotel. Staff is great. If you are a guitar player, they have a very cool (free) program where you can borrow a 1 of 17 Gibson guitars for as long as you like. The catch is you have to plug the guitar in to this red "pod" thing along with a set of headphones so that it contains the noise and your neighbors don't hear you. Pretty clever.
Go to Hub 51 for lunch or dinner

Don't stay at the Ritz. They damaged my Viper and will not repair it.

Wow, I'm honoured that your first post was to help me out!
Thanks for the great info everybody. We did look at the hotels next to McCormick but they were about twice the price, and as you mentioned they aren't near anything else so we'd probably end up heading downtown in the evenings to entertain clients anyways.
and D-VO, that depends, how are your prospects?

Well I'm here, and the person who was supposed to join me had to delay their flight until tomorrow, so it looks like I have a free night in the city! I think I'm going to head down to the bar for a quick drink and then wander around for a while, maybe find a Portillos for a quick snack
.
I also took advantage of their Check in and Rock out program, so when I get back there should be a guitar waiting for me!
Is there anything worth checking out tonight?
