I'll give my opinion here, but I am certainly biased. I've got a 2002 G500. I don't really compare my truck to a RR or RRS. I do, however, compare it to a Defender 110, AM General Hummer (H1) and, to some extent, a Jeep JK Unlimited.
All were originally military designs that were adapted over time to civilian use (some changed more than others). In the case of the H1 and Gwagen, luxury guts were added, but the design never really changed. The H1, Jeep and the Defender stayed more utilitarian for the most part, but the Jeep has undergone TONS of changes over the years to get where it is now. The H1 didn't really become a luxury truck until late in life. It was cloth and plastic with optional leather seat covers up until 2004 and dead by 2006 (with no 2005 model).

I've had a Jeep YJ, 2 Jeep TJ's and an H1 in the past. My Gwagen is the perfect combination of what I like in a truck/SUV.
It's pretty comfortable inside with nice (if a little dated) options. It is a 10 year old truck after all.
    It's awesome offroad...and I DO take mine offroad...alot.
It's big enough to haul my family and gear to the mountains or the beach. The Jeeps I had were too small. An Unlimited would be better, but still not as much room as my Gwagen.
It's small enough that I don't feel like I'm widening every trail I go down. An H1 will go more places than you would think, but you're always the widest thing on the trails, so you'll get more limb scratches than your friends.
It has the power to run down the interstate at 100mph (and mine is on 35's) and the gearing you need on the trails.

In short, the ride quality and road manners aren't even in the same realm as a RR, RRS, Cayenne, etc. It is a coil sprung, body-on-frame vehicle, with no fancy suspension adjustments...but it's a damn sight nicer than the other body-on-frame SUV's that are out there.

At the end of the day, if you hate how something looks, you wont like it no matter how good it is...and if you love how it looks, you will overlook ALOT of shortcomings to justify your lust. I'm sure I fall into the latter group, and that is fine with me.

Why is everyone comparing the G to the X5M and X6M??? Ever hear of the ML63? Now that blows the Ms out of the water! Just look at it! The G is pure class, in its own class, and if you don't understand it, no class.

Owned a Range Rover, LX470, GX470, Yukon Denali XL, and 2 G Wagons...

The G wagons, look the best. Ride, drive, and interior quality go to the others.
