Thinking about going from CL to E...
Wassup guys, owned the Cl for about a year now, but i feel like im in need of something more powerful. The cl is a special car to me and seems as though everyone thinks its unique, and it sure as hell gets a lot of looks, but i kinda want something that will push me back into my seat a little more. So i was thinking about getting a 07-08 E63 Amg, but im caught in the middle of keeping my black beauty or getting the AMG. What do you guys think?
Heres a couple pics of my car, currents only has a custom exhaust on it, painted calipers and tint. Nothing fancy.

and here a couple pics from a E55 meet i went to lol my buddy has a e55 and i just though id take along with my boat

Things I've noticed between driving a normal series vs AMG is minimal. I notice a bit more torque in the AMG yes. But honestly when I drove a CL550 and then tried out the CL63 AMG I noticed absolutely nothing other then I got to 100 a bit faster.... I'm not sure what your looking for exactly. Raw power? handling? pure torque? pure straight line speed?. If you want all of those things in 1 MBZ I'd suggest a C63 AMG. It's the most agile MBZ in my opinion, other then the black series that is.

To be honest, I was in the same boat as you. I wanted a 2006 e55 over the e63 just because of the sheer mod potential. I wanted to get a e55 and convert it to a face lifted 07-09 e63 looks, with a few upgrades such as pulley and aftermarket ic pump. But then it came down to AWD. But what really made me ditch the idea was the thought of there will always be someone faster than you. So i got a fully loaded e550 4matic. Its no e63 and its no e350 but it gets the job done.
Now onto your case. From what i understand you have a very clean cl550 with quad exhausts. Take it from an E owner I think the CL is wayy more classier of a benz than an E. Thats actually my dream car when i hit the lotto.
I'd say stick with the CL...But if ur really that power hungry then i recommend a low miled e55

Driving a standard Benz vs. an AMG is a night and day difference......
I get in my e500...its quiet, refined, I don't feel a bump in the road. Then I get in the AMG...press start and the idle crackles a wonderful tone, body is 10x more stiff. Handling is much more precise. Power is very different at all speeds. The engine never seems to run out of breath. I have driven almost all AMG cars. From the 55s to the 65s you can beat them. The 63s are more rev happy but still a blast. All of the above sound like thunder
Get your hands on an E55 or 63 and have fun. Like Fila0220 said, the 55 with a simple pulley kit will run close to 600hp..much more modding potential.Audi A4-(modded)
CLK55 AMG
Chevy Tahoe
E420-(Gone

I'm assuming you have the CL 550 N/A motor.
The new CL 550 biturbo 4matic will cure that. You basically get a smaller version of the new AMG biturbo V8 in the CL63, but you also get all wheel drive. No more blinking yellow triangle on the dash. And you can mod it just as easily, since it's turbo (no pulley, just need to chip it). I would definitely pick up one of the new 550 biturbo motors over the older 55k or 63 N/A motors if you can afford it, and the CL is, although not as maneuverable, much more luxurious than the E.

Stick to the CL. Get some go fast bits for it. The car is way too sexy.

To be honest, after driving my buddies E55, that raw power is what i seem to be craving. But then again after discussing that aspect of a 55 with a couple of E55 owners, they claim that they are over it. According to them it gets annoying that every time they step on the throttle they get the traction control cutting in, unless they have some serious rubber on their side. Disabling the traction in a 55 or actually AMG is asking for mayhem. I WANT IT!

Thanks for the kind words Fila, i can imagine the 550 motor in a E class would be really fun. The CL is a really nice car to just cruise along in with all windows down ( since it has no B pillars) . It catches a lot of eyes, but honestly i rather enjoy a car for the driving factor than enjoy it because its flashy. Plus i already got pulled over twice for not having my license plate on :P, and guess what the cop told me. " I've noticed that these luxury car owners don't like to put plates on their cars, idk if its because their trying the fly under the radar or they think its cool.." lmao i laughed in his face and said its the second one.
