Default SL63AMG Jerky Downshifts on COMFORT MODE

    Hello L4P Members...

Has anyone ever noticed the following on their MBZ 63 AMG models...

-when you drive the car in COMFORT MODE, the car jerks when it downshifts.
(when you drive in SPORT+, usually no problems!)

    What is the problem?

    Any thoughts?

    Hi Orangetoro!

"Jerky" downshifts seem to be normal - it's the combination between 7G tronic + software + SL.

At least in german press reviews this was one of the most critised topics, that the gearbox is not able to shift down comfortably!

Some owners tried to update their software and "felt" a slight improvement.

Some of the other owners developed following theory about this: Your throttle and the gearbox have an adaptive software - means, they 'learn' how you drive the car (e.g. how intensively you use the pedal or which mode you prefer, etc.)
Since a lot of the drivers with those jerky downshifts do NOT use the car alone, moreover the hole family is driving it, the software now has problems to adapt correctly the ind. driving style...

I hope it everyone knows what i mean - sorry for my english

PS: Why would someone ever drive a SL63 in C mode?

AGREED...THAT IS WHY I DRIVE IT IN SPORT+.
I THINK THE DEFAULT IS "C" MODE...NOT SURE HOW TO SWITCH IT TO SPORT+ AS THE DEFAULT...

    HOW'S IT GOING IN BERLIN???

Its going fine over here! hope your amg problems will be solved soon - think its a bit unfortunate that it causes more problems than any italian car in your stable

We'll get back our SLS from the detailer tomorrow morning and then will have a laaaaaaarge tour

Nice...what color is your SLS? PIX, please when you get it back...
When I think of Berlin, I think BOURNE - Jason Bourne for some reason.
Loved the city...next time, I want to drive the AUTOBAHN...how fast have you gone on the AUTOBAHN? Is it true? NO SPEED LIMIT and cannot pass on the RIGHT?

well, it's a bit more complicated than everyone thinks

on the one hand there are autobahnways which are unlimited, BUT in case of an accident no insurance will pay if you were going faster than 130 kmh. on the other hand there are parts where speed limit is restricted (various speed limits possible) and speedtraps/cams etc. are waiting for you
passing - just left hand side allowed, if you pass on the right you may lose you licence if they catch you
since most of the AB are 3tracked passing on the left is no problem

I had the same problem, but MB dealer did a software update and all is well. You cant keep it in sport+ after you turn off ignition, but you can in sport. I figure I dont want to run the car that aggressive from a cold start anyway.

After the software update, no more jerky downshifts? or does it still occur?

Your normal daily driving - SPORT or SPORT+?
