2011 Chicago AMG Performance Tour [ Reviews/Pic/Video ]
Headed out to the Autobahn Raceway in Joliet yesterday for the AMG Tour, very fun event. Had the chance to test out the C63 and SL63 several times. Took a good amount of photos and a few videos (Still uploading).
2011 C63 AMG + SL63
I actually drove the SL first but I figured I'd write a bit about this one first. The C63 off the bat is one hell of a design. If you've seen them you know I am talking about. A sporty sedan that screams AMG when you look at it. The interior to top it is not only comfy but holds an array of gadgets for any type of driver. More important then design, the power this thing lays down is intense. Took off the line with her and she threw me back instantly. A ton of torque and it definitely some pull on the wheel. It's been about 6 months since I drove something powerful with some performance brakes to match. Taking the first corner, I slammed the brakes which halted me from about 75 to 25 in what had to have been no less then a second and a half. As soon as I pulled around the corner, there was a tad under-steer then expected but punching the gas pulled me right back where I needed to be. The acceleration is really mind blowing. One thing that was a bit off for me on this was the amount of work the computer did with the transmission. It was constantly shifting making the car pull me around quite a bit. On decel in the corners, you really feel the car engine braking you towards the wheel. Overall, this was one hell of a drive. Probably not the best review ever but first time I've gotten to rock in an AMG compared to ///M
The SL63 was a whole other car compared to the C63. The C63 is a much more roomy sedan and not so driver focused necessarily. The 2-seater SL63 took off the line like a bat out of hell, I gave this car more justice around the track as a race car then I did with the C63. The brakes halted me quickly like the C63 but throttling through the turns and then opening her up opened my eyes to it's true power. On the longest stretch I got the C up to about 95 where as the SL reached about a steady 112 mph before laying down the brakes on the final turn. I'm not sure what else I could possibly say about both of these cars but I really like to get myself track time in the near future.
P.S. I forgot to mention that I lucked out hard on the SLS, my buddy Jake @ EuroCharged had the in to drive the SLS around the track but I was too dumb to look at my phone to see his message. : (

Great time. I looked at that bmw, and a lotus they had for sale. Getting back on the road course made me miss it.

Wish they did one of these in Houston. There was a Dallas one a few weeks ago I think but wasn't able to make it.
