Default Are high mileage SL55s like this a no-no

I wanted to get an XKR, but think I might wait til after I get married. Nonetheless I would like a nice reasonably priced bachelor car for under 45k.

What do you guys think of these and is there any advice you can lend with respect to purchasing high mileage SL55s

60k miles isn't that bad, but 80k is too high...you would usually run into control arm problems and need to have them changed, a friend of mine had that done but he still had extended warranty which was good, but if its out of pocket expense it would cost you

First off, those cars are WAY over priced.

Also, get ready to spend $$$ on maintenance...Especially on a early model 03-04 car..

what do you reckon is a fair price for either car, particularly since the seller doesn't know if i like or dislike the custom upgrades?

It sounds like you would recommend a 05-06 model year, correct?

^^ I would recommend one with warranty ideally.

I don't know exactly what those cars are worth, however, we have a '03 SL55 with 30k miles and extended warranty (near mint car as well) and have been offered high 20s/low 30s wholesale and retail around $33-34k.

    To much IMO. I've seen 2005 sl65. For 55k with 40k miles. I suggest a 05 m5 or a 996 tt

Great car's but if anything goes bad be somewhere else. Lots of $$$ to repair those older cars out of warranty. I'd get the youngest thing you can afford or go CPO/extended warranty.

The non-AMG car's maybe you can get away with it but anything with an AMG badge tends to be a bit more expensive to repair when it goes bad.

60k isnt too high mileage yet, you should be fine, 55 amg handbuilt motors are solid and proven. It says warranty available too. I dont think $36k is too much for a 8 year old car that was $120k, get it, enjoy it, drive it

Great cars, great value, but higher than average maintenance costs & expected repairs.
