E55 Owners - Need Some Assistance
Hey guys! After swearing I would never purchase another AMG (my 2009 CL63 was a disaster), here I am again about to purchase an E55 AMG. I am buying this car as a daily driver so I can stop worrying about my R8, lol!
Anyway, I am wondering if the tail lights on the 03-06 E-class are interchangeable with the newer 07+ tail lights on the E-class? The car has extremely low mileage and is in excellent shape. Anything I should look for before purchasing the car? It is going through a PPI at the local dealership and I am very friendly (to say the least) with the dealership / owner of the store, which is an authorized MB dealership.

Yeah you can swap them out, but I think the stock ones are nicer! What year is it and how many miles?
There's really nothing much to worry about other than the airmatic struts. That's the main thing that's gonna take a dump! Otherwise, people will tell you to swap the IC pump to a new higher flow CM30 Johnson, do a heat exchanger replacement to a bigger one so that your S/C doesn't shut down when you're doing hot runs.
So really, there's nothing that sticks in my mind that you should look after in particular.

Damn those are some low miles!! Mind telling how much you're getting it for? PM if you want
I had an '03 too. Only downside is the cluster goes up to 160mph. I had mine swapped for the 200+. And the Comand is the ghetto one with tape player. Swap for a newer comand for about $300. You won't get navigation though, and it would take a bit more to get it (install wise and cost wise).
I really can't say anything bad about that car other than the struts. I had one go out, but I was under warranty.

Thank you! I didn't notice the cluster, but I really don't mind it. I could always swap it out down the line. The Command center (stupid little screen) is something I would definitely swap. Is it significantly more expensive to put an OEM navigation in the vehicle? What newer one can I get for $300?

Adding nav requires you to add a nav drive to the trunk. Which, depending on what options you have (ie trunk closer), may dictate replacement to a option correct trunk liner, brackets etc. I really can't tell you what the nav drive install entails, but it's gonna be a little bit of money.
I did recently discover an aftermarket head unit that fits in the W211. No idea how good it is or what the compatibility to the OEM system is ( I believe the stock system uses fiberoptic).
I'd honestly look into something like that. In my E55, I just had a 2006 or so headunit and no nav.

Alright. So I just received some bad news. They sold the car! I'm so angry! I was set on purchasing it today and of course it sold last night. Anyone have any info on a low mileage E55 for sale, please let me know.

Update. I have located a 2005 E55 with the right options and it has low mileage, but a bit higher than the 2003. This one has 46K on it. Anyone with higher mileage have anything to say? Are there third party warranty's I can purchase?

I wouldn't get a 3rd party warranty personally, just each month put like $200 or so into a "fix-it fund" and you would be better off in my opinion. Cars need maintenance, high end cars just need more of it, the nature of the beast.
There is two cost to everything in life, the cost to buy it and the cost of keeping it!Last edited by SMW; 05-25-2012 at 02:47 PM.
