Default WTB; Breitling or Rolex Mens model time piece. Sub $2,xxx budget. Ready to buy.

    Hey guys,

I'm interested in purchasing my 1st decent watch, but starting with a low budget to see where it takes me. From looking online, ebay, etc. under $2,000 doesn't get you much, however, I've seen some nice examples for near my price range.

If anyone has suggestions on where to look, has something for sale, or perhaps point me in the right direction which models I should look into that fits my budget, please let me know! I'm ready to buy.

Strictly used, as I've already bought my under $1,000 new watches.

    Thanks!

    Justin

You've seen some nice examples of authentic Breitlings and Rolexes for sub-$1k? Highly doubtful.

To be honest, for sub-$1k you might be able to purchase a steel Breitling or Rolex bracelet, but you won't find a real Breitling or Rolex timepiece in that price range.

For novices, I'd recommend against "researching" and even more so against purchasing major brand-name watches (ie. Breitling, Omega, Rolex, Panerai, etc.) off eBay. Counterfeits are so abundant and getting better and better everyday that unless you know what to look for, good luck (because you're going to need it).

Use watchrecon.com and/or lionseek.com and visit the many different forums that focus solely on Breitlings and Rolexes to research approximate price ranges and find specific pieces currently for sale that might interest you.

Please excuse the original title, I am willing to spend around $2,000 and slightly upwards.

I realized I stated sub $1,500. This is NOT what I meant. Haha sorry.

For around 2k you might get a 36mm beat up Datejust or AirKing. Personally I dont see the value in buying a watch that the minute you buy is going to cost quarter to a half of its initial cost just to service and regulate.

I think the 1500-2500 is the toughest price range to find something in. Nice (relative) cheaper stuff thats quartz you have a huge selection but imo can't get anything nice untill 3500-4000 opens your options to some really, really nice pieces.

If you are willing to consider other brands, then I'd research Omega. Hamilton makes some nice pieces well within your budget also. Kobold is another piece that comes to mind off hand. Stretch it just a bit, and you can get my Panerai 173

Thanks! I was upset with myself when I posted that, and edited it and it didn't reflect the change! Cheers!
