Props hit it on the head! We looked into it as well it's cheaper to just rent. I've spent 2 weeks in the Carribean on a 80ft Yacht and had a blast. I have a friend that has two yachts he told me plain and simple it's not about buying the yacht (that's the cheaper part) it's about keeping them.

At $1,000 per foot per year, you're absolutely correct.

$1000/foot/per year is dirt cheap. Most are closer to that amount per month if they are heavily used

If you were to charter out your own yacht what percentage of your expenses can be recoverd. Is there potential to make a profit?

Nothing is better than chillin on your own boat although it is definitely more relaxing to chill on somebody elses.

I always tell my freinds that if they're gonna buy a boat, make sure it's better than mine so I can sell mine and just ride on theirs.

Not in this market. But at the same time, there's some great deals on purchases out there which could make it more feasible but I'm still gonna say not in this market.

Honestly the guy we rented from in the Bahamas said that he was just covering the expenses on his boat when he rented it to us. Pretty much breaking even. I'm pretty sure he made some money but it wasn't a lot........... Guy was super nice I'll have to see if I can find some pics from the trip.
