New record! Worlds fastest pleasure boat!
Mercedes Boat Speed Run!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been getting a lot of comments, emails and PM's since Pure Platinums 185.7 run last month.
We have never tried an actual speed run before, just went off what our speed was when out playing. Today we took the boat to some good water in Miami to see which is actually the "Worlds Fastest pleasure boat".
We put a set of 17" props which were a little bit too big, Rev limiters were only set at 6,800 not 7,000 but we figured we would see what it could do. We still had a few good runs considering.
There are more videos that will be posted that were taken from the air, another boat as well as video from inside the boat. It all has to be processed. This is a little clip of one of the runs with Johnny Tomilson holding a camera. Not a bad job considering what he was doing!!

Props can fit different application depending on weather it's a cat or v, size of boat, RPM's etc.
The size and pitch are too differnet things.
The props that were "too big" were a 17" diameter which happens to give my boat too much stern lift. The props that were too small were a 16.5 diameter which does not give enough stern lift. I need a 16.75" x 40P prop for what we were doing.
It obviously ran good just not perfect.

wow.. CONGRATS.. that is FUN !! .. a very FAST pleasureboat..!!
my thoughts: that was one cool, calm, collected run.. i am surprised how much time you spent at over 175 mph plus the fact that you guys were able to hold a conversation.
i assume that you are Gino. did you drive and throttle.?
i give credit to Mr. Tomlinson as he must trust you a ton and i would rather watch where we are going than try to hold a camera steady.. and NOT throttle ??
keep up the good work..
p.s.. the motors sounded great.. sterlings or mercs?
..
... impress me with the honor of your word and how you treat others rather than your material possessions...

Very nice. I can only imagine what 190+ feels like in a boat. I'm digging this other video you posted too: YouTube - Mercedes of ft. lauderdale 44 MTI

So crazy, I've been telling myself for the past year I will be going to one of these events. I would love to photograph it. I couldn't even imagine riding in one of these beasts. That would be AWESOME.
Jay actually invited me in the past to photograph with him in the helicopter but I wasn't able to make it out.
I take photos. Check it!
