Excuse the newbie questions but I'm curious. And I'm sure alot depends on specifics but please indulge me.
How much does a charter costs? High to low and for how long.

How long of a boat are you looking to charter? Which body of water are you leaving from?

I've seen 180 foot for 100k a week. I don't think that included food though.

the price depend of lot's facts like the size and the year of the boat but also the crew needed, where you want to go with it how long and how luch will you be onboard the best think is to long around best charting company depending of your destination usually you can find a pre estimate cost for it.
here is one website
Luxury yacht charter - motor yacht boat vacations and crewed sailing yachts in the Mediterranean, Caribbean & worldwide. but the best company to deal with is for me Luxury Yacht Charter | Mega Yacht Charter | Super Yacht Charter - Camper & Nicholsons International's Official Yachting Site

My Racing biddy has a 110 foot sail with 140 mast that they charte all over the world, but its home port is in St, Marten. I could ask him and find out what he charges. I went on a sail around the Virgin Islands with him and it was unreal. They have a good chef and plenty to drink. Best time I had, and I am not a sailboat person, but it open my eyes.

Its easy to spend tens upon tens of thousands of dollars chartering a yacht. If you want the same experience for very little money (considering....) check out a barefoot yacht cruise.. Google "Windjammer Barefoot Cruises"...
You still get that "small" boat feel, much more personalized service and the true feeling of sailing. Not just doddling around the ocean in a floating apartment building.

There is also a less expensive option called bareback chartering, and this allows you to take the vessel yourself, without a captain, crew, or chef, and these vessels are usually in the 40 foot range ( power and sail ). You can either provide all food and nessesary provisions for the trip, or for additional $$, have them stock the vessel beforehand so you dont have to blow a 1/2 day of your vacation doing this once you arrive there.
There is also the option to have these smaller vessels crewed.
As with all charters, cost is mainly dependant on the time of the year you wish to go. During hurricane season is the least expensive time.A Citroen powered Peugoet.
A 1600 hp canoe.
And Others.
