Default My Amphicar restorations (by request)

My name is John, located North of Denver and I specialize in Amphicar restorations. I am the former president/webmaster of the International Amphicar Owners Club and have been restoring Amphicars for 12 years. By request of Cale (Waterboy222) in the "WHo all here has a boat.." thread. I started this thread so you can enjoy my strange affliction!
    • YES! I do drive it and swim it too!
    • Yes, it has licence plates for land, boat reg for water
    • Insured for both land and water
    • 6 knots in water, 70+MPH on land
    • Built in Germany for the US market 1961-68
    • 3878 LHDs and 90 RHDs produced, about 2000 still exist in all conditions with about 600+ sea-worthy example worldwide
    • I don't talk prices as it is subjective based on the individual car.
    • No the doors don't leak, like any boat they will ship some water and yes, i's equipped with a bilge pump

Sure do have some pics. This one is one I completed last year. The one pic called "shine" shows the reflection of my white Amphi in the 1/4 panel of this green Amphi to illustrate the quality of our body and paint work. This car was another nut/bolt resto right down to reproducing the original "Norm's Sporting Goods" sticker placed there by the dealer who sold it new in Emporia, Ks. She wears her original Fjord Green color and the apricot/white interior w/white top. It's so ugly, it beautiful!

I'm currently working on 3 Amphicars, 2 nut/bolt and one driver. I have others for sale or is it "sail?" I only sell them as a restored car, no projects (except I do have one rough project for sale). I have one Amphicar that the Beatles rode in, in 1966 from the airport to thier 2nd to last live US concert in Cleveland, Aug 1966. That one will have a premium on it.

I hope you enjoy my passion!

There's a guy up here on one of our local lakes that has one. He always brings it out to the classic boat show. Very VERY cool!

Thanks for the post, lots of lurkers this weekend!

Here are some more action pics. The 1st picture was a few years back on the Rock River in Il. I'm in the white car just behind the red one. That was myself and a few friends heading down river about 15 miles.

The 2nd and 3rd pictures were from Lake Yellowstone, Wy. 90% of that day it either hailed, rained or snowed on us. LOVED IT!

The last pic is me entering the water at about 30 MPH. I hope you guys love 'em like I do!

Thanks! Yes, 6 knots is exactly 7MPH or fast enuf to drown a water skier. Rated at 7 knots top speed except going down hill. 70MPH on land, but I've had mine to 85 which I don't reccomend. Faster you go, the more vague the steering gets. I can almost still taste the vinyl of my seats if ya know whutImean.
