    Default Waverunners? Shes home!

I am looking to purchase one, used but dont know much about them.

What should i be looking for in a used waverunner? How many hours is too much? How many horses should it have? Particular brand to avoid?

My only requirements are that its a 3 seater and can pull a tube or skier with ease.

thanks in advance for the info!!

    Alex...

My opinion on seadoos, buy NEW. THey have short life spans and 99% of them are used, abused, ridden hard and put away wet. I bought a 2010 GTi last weekend for $7k off the showroom floor.. Blue and chrome.. runs 63mph, can pull a tube and can yank my 200lb ass out of the water on a double-boot slolam and can run over 50 EASILY with me hittin the bouys. With two 200lb guys on it, itll still run 61mph. Or you could spend twice as much to go 4mph more and use 7x more fuel.

Sea Doos.. buy new with Warranty... when warranty is about to go, sell it...

Yamaha as reliable as teh sun coming up... have had 3 already. GP760, GP800 Limited and now a XLT1200.

Brother has Sea DooDoo.. RXP, 3 engine rebuilds all under warranty... the XP limited he had before.. sank twice due to faulty jet pump seal.. also 2 motor rebuilds...

5 year warranty was thrown in for free, forgot to mention that.. Ive had nothing but bad luck with the yamaha's.. One caught fire, one sank because of the impeller shaft seal. Both bikes repaired and lasted a long time. I cant speak for current reliability on the yamahas but SeaDoo is still the industry standard in my opinion.

I would go with a seadoo RXT. It's a supercharged 3 seater with 215hp. The motors are very strong and should last for a long time (provided that the supercharger washers we're replaced). Try to find one that is bone stock with less than 60-80hrs.

My 260hp 2004 RXP will be for sale shortly but I don't really want to sell it to anyone on the forum due to the amount of modifications.

BIIIIG $$$$ for small increase in speed... mine is the 155 hp and its only a few mph short of that one and about $5k less in price.

and keep in mind (with PWC's) its not about how FAST you go its about how QUICK you get going FAST.. thats why youll see some 250hp monsters with the same top speed as the rest of the bikes.. but they get to that coveted 65mph mark a lot quicker..

I have only been exposed to the GTX's and GTX limiteds. My aunt has 4 and rotates the old out for the new every couple of years. I agree with buying new w/ a warranty. I believe care and maintenance is everything with anything water related. The gtx's are the biggest and are very stable especially pulling someone. She always buys the brand new last years models at a good discount.

+1 you are paying for the acceleration. Mine will literally jump out of the water off the line but only goes about 10-12mph faster than a stock one.
