    Default Lake Norman, NC

lake norman, nc - Google Maps

Anyone here spend any time there? I happened upon this lake while playing around in Google maps. It looks like an interesting place to visit and perhaps to live. I'd love to hear more about it from anyone who's been there or lives there.

    Thanks.

I have been up on Norman many times. Really pretty lake, lot of nice houses. Many clebs from NASCAR have places up there. Really the only problem is the lake is pretty packed especial on weekends, lots of traffic and not sure what the water situation is there currently. If your looking to move to the SE and looking at a lake location PM me I have a place on what many think is the perfect lake. Its power company owned for nuclear power production which means full pool all the time

I have family that lives on the lake. It's beautiful, has lots of nice houses but as the population increases, so does the traffic. Brawley School Rd, which leads to The Point (most of the nice houses are here), is a parking lot during rush hour, only one lane each way. My family loves it and I'm sure anyone moving there will too as well.

I grew up around that area and have very fond memories of it. It's very different now and a lot more crowded. Cost of living is pretty reasonable there and it's been a pretty stable real estate market.

I have family there too. Brawley School Rd is being widened down to The Point, so traffic there will get better. Beautiful golf course, too. Love holes 16-18.
Only regret is not buying lots in the initial lottery at The Point for $50-90k that now are $600k-1M+.

Thanks for all the good tips, guys. It sounds like the consensus is that Lake Norman is nice but the lake and streets are crowded. My ideal is probably something less crowded. I spent time on Lake Winnipesaukee about 15 years ago and loved it. I'm sure it has changed though.

If you guys know of any other lakes that would be great to live on, I'm all ears.

If you don't have to worry about work, I love Deep Creek Lake in MD. Mountain skiing in the winter, and water sports in the summer. There are some amazing waterfront houses out there. They also just finished building an adventure center at the top of a mountain that has up to Cat 5 rapids.

Calling skiing at Wisp "mountain skiing" may be a bit of a stretch. When I think water and mountains, I think Lake Tahoe. Maybe Park City and Jordanelle Reservoir.

Or, if you're still thinking NC and like less populated areas, look into Lake James, just east of Asheville.

Lake Norman is very nice. As stated before it can get packed, however, my experiece is that it only gets packed on major holidays and sometimes early on Saturday mornings. Other than that, I dont think you can beat it. The people are friendly and the real estate is reasonable. It has a country feel to it but it is close to Charlotte which is has plenty to offer here in NC. Here are some pics of the last time I was down there. July 5th. I prefer to go on Sundays due to the low traffic.
