Aston Martin isn’t messing around with the AM-RB 001.

When the British automaker first announced its hypercar developed in collaboration with Red Bull Racing, we all knew it was going to be special. Specs and details have slowly been released and it all confirms that the car is as crazy as it looks. More information has been revealed and we now know a bit more about the dream team contributing to making the AM-RB 001 one of the craziest machines ever created.

For starters, the 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine will come from Cosworth, which is well known for supplying some of the automotive industry’s best engines. The powerplant will be paired with a lightweight hybrid battery system, similar to a KERS boost system used on Formula 1 race cars. The seven-speed paddle-shift gearbox is designed and manufactured by Ricardo.

The company is still targeting a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio, with the goal of tipping the scales at around 900 kilograms (1,984 pounds), meaning it’s shooting for 900 horsepower. Yes, it would be better if the automaker was going for 1,984 horsepower, but that’s not going to be the case.

Aston Martin has also teamed up with Alcon and Surface Transforms to develop a new lightweight and powerful braking system. Bosch will contribute with electronic systems like the traction control unit, electronic stability program, and engine control unit.

Hopefully the Aston Martin AM-RB 001 lives up to the hype, as the company’s CEO Andy Palmer has ambitiously said it will be able to lap the Silverstone circuit as quick as or quicker than an F1 or LMP1 car.
