McLaren has dropped another teaser for its all-new Super Series, showing just a small snippet of the car.
Small as it may be, it is enough to see that this car, the successor to the 650S, will still have the famous curvy styling of a McLaren. The British supercar maker says that the new car will have twice the aerodynamic efficiency of the current car along with increased downforce and improved cooling.
An active wing, a small part of which is shown in the teaser, will run the full width of the car at the back and will be able to extend, retract and adjust its angle, all to optimize the car for either track of street driving. The wing will also act as an airbrake under heavy braking by extending to its most extreme angle in less than half a second.
“A range of advanced aerodynamic technologies contributes to maximum generated downforce over 50% greater than that of the McLaren 650S and ensures truly outstanding levels of grip and stability,” said Mark Vinnels, executive director of product development at McLaren.
In a previous teaser, McLaren said that the car’s carbon fiber monocoque will have a dry weight of 2828 pounds, 40 pounds lighter than the current car.
Rumor has it that the 650S replacement will be called the 720S, suggesting that the car will make 720 horsepower. A new engine is also said to be in the works, a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 hooked to some type of hybrid system.
A new design for the dihedral doors will be found on this car, housing two separate air ducts. One forces air down from the top of the door to help with engine cooling while the other draws air out from the front wheel arch to increase downforce.
McLaren will reveal the 650S successor at the upcoming 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March.
