The Lotus Exige Sport 380, unveiled in late 2016, is one of the British sports car manufacturer’s most hardcore road-going vehicles ever, but for some, even a stripped out near-400 horsepower Exige isn’t enough to get the blood racing.
For those select few, Lotus has rolled out the even more hardcore Exige Race 380. As the name would suggest, the Exige Race 380 is a track-only version of the Exige Sport 380 and will be eligible for the Lotus Cup series and a number of clubman racing series right out of the box.
Powering the Exige Race 380 is the same 375 horsepower 3.5-litre supercharged V6 engine found in the road car, however in place of the six-speed manual transmission is an Xtrac six-speed sequential racing transmission actuated by carbon fibre shift paddles. Also exclusive to the racing variant is an available titanium exhaust, which trims a further 10 kg from the car, an oil cooling system and a cassette plate-type limited slip differential.
Providing more performance gains over the road car is a revised aerodynamics kit. Front and rear bumper vents, a new front splitter and rear diffuser and a straight-cut rear wing work together to provide increased levels of grip and up to 240 kilograms of downforce at 170 mph. Other new performance pieces include Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, AP Racing brakes with four-piston calipers, adjustable Öhlins dampers and adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars.
Making the Exige Race 380 eligible for motorsports competition is an integrated roll cage, an FIA-certified and HANS-compatible carbon fibre drivers seat, a competition spec fire extinguisher, battery isolator and front and rear tow hooks. The cabin also features a new TFT instrument cluster that incorporates a track data logger and GPS system. The logger can be upgraded with other motorsports-related programs any race team might need.
The Lotus Exige Race 380 will start at £99,500. Lotus is already taking orders from interested parties.
