Kind of considering walking the Exige S path myself and this thread is pretty much along the lines of what I was going to ask sooooo....
I've heard that the elise/exige engines while toyotas have been coined "the glass engine" because the cylinders apparently like to fail even in stock form. Is this one of those internet rumor mill things that is over hyped or is there a very real reason to worry?
In this thread it was stated that the Exige S (220) could put out 260hp with a tune and a pulley? I was just curious what kind of $$$ figure we are talking about to get to that power level. Does anyone sell "upgrade packages" etc? I checked on Sector111 but couldn't find anything other than exhausts and headers.
Cheers!

it doesnt even need the pulley. just a tune (and if you want to be extra safe, some bigger injectors) and 260hp is easily achieved.
the tune is like $1200 if you to the gotham tune (which is highly recommended)
and no, there arent really "packages" for the lotus like with most other carsDamen Knight

yes it is considered the glass engine, mostly because of weak valves and ring lans. i started with an exige s 220 (previously put 247whp and am almost done with a bigger s/c now), as you know there are newer exige s 240's and 260's out now. these all run the same size s/c pulley size. its mostly tuning, yes bigger injectors and better intercooler would help. the gotham 265 tune by charlie on s111 is great, but mostly if your looking to do that and nothing else (maybe just exhaust, intake prior). As i'm sure you know, once you start modifying after the flash, then it would need to be flashed again which is expensive considering the $2000 price tag on flashes alone.
As for packages, yes there are packages, but only if your looking for major power upgrades (s/c, turbo, ect.). not really "packages" if its just intake exhaust kind of mods.
I have dealt with all of the lotus aftermarket sites, so here are some good names to look at for parts. Sector111.com, BOEengineering.com, Blackwatchracing.com, Reallylightstuff.com. Each of these have their "specialties" with different parts of the lotus. BOE's site is down frequently for some reason, but they are good. That is where i just bought my new s/c.

Has anybody tried to put a Honda K Series engine in these cars? I believe they are the same demensions as the Toyota and are way more receptive to tunning. Interested to see if thats an option...

some have, but i've read on the lotus forum that its a lot more work than people think, due to ecu, dash gauges replacements. also heard in the end is around $8k with stock k20. i feel as if it would be worth it with an unlimited budget so you could max out the k20, but if you ave something like a $10000 budget then you could make the 2zz faster than doing a k20 swap.

Ironically...

I was sitting in a Exige and Elise this past weekend in Columbus. First time I've seen one in person close up and been in one. Damn those things are adult go carts. I want the Exige though. I'm gonna have to put it on hold, sitting on a couple new business ideas and anticipating a building a new garage.
