    Default Exige V6???

    from LotusTalk

According to a report by LeftLaneNews, Lotus has been spied testing a version of its Exige, powered by the same V6 engine that can be found in the new Evora.

While some Exige models make as much as 260hp using a supercharged four-cylinder, the Evora's V6 (sourced from the Toyota Camry) makes 276 ponies without the need for forced induction.

There is the possibility that under the familiar bodywork this is actually the next-generation Exige. There is also a strong possibility that this could be some limited edition model.

Regardless, as the report gives no real photographic evidence to support the V6 claim, and a V6-powered Exige seems to fly in the face of the light-weight Lotus philosophy, we'll wear our skeptical hat for now.

I've always loved how lotus was small and lighter. I would rather stick with the 4c then go to a V6. Could always slap a turbo on their, instead of going to another engine...

V6 supercharged wouldn't be bad on that car.

Yep... you can get PLENTY of power out of a 4 cylinder without the added weight and without taking up as much space.

although i love the 4 cylinder (tuneability on them is awesome), i wouldn't mind seeing what a 6 could do

Really though, there's no need unless it was N/A (and even then there's really no point).

You can get a lot better performance and gas mileage out of a 4 cylinder turbo. Plus it'll keep the weight down. It's not like an Exige needs 1000whp. You could get 350 - 500whp VERY easily out of a 4 cylinder and still be extremely reliable. The key is choosing the right 4 cylinder.

Lotus has a niche for making unique lightweight cars that handle impeccably, if they start to veer away from that niche I think they will start to lose their appeal. I don't see them making a supercar to compete with Ferrari or Lamborghini, not that a V6 car would be trying for that, but it's a step in that direction and I doubt Lotus has any interest in entering that competition. I think there is still lots of progress to be made with the 4 cylinder, so why try something new when you haven't perfected what you started? The Elise/Exige has saved Lotus for the time being, and I think if they want to continue that success it needs to be done by continually offering something you can't get anywhere else.
