Default I need opinions and experiences with the LR Discovery

I have a friend who has to get rid of an 03 Discovery with 66k miles on it. I have always thought it was a sharp car, and because he is in a bind financially, I can get it for $8500.

I know that LR's have a questionable reputation for reliability, and I would appreciate anyones input on the car and the deal.

    Thanks.

For that price that's kind of hard to pass up reliability issues aside. If nothing else you could flip it for more $$$

Springs or bags on the rear? At that mileage I'd expect the bags to potentially need some love. The electronics or ABS may start to have a few issues and interior panels may have a few squeaks. But, I'd say get it, be prepared for some maintenance costs that are higher than a Honda. Get an Old Man Emu stiff spring set and bilsteens (provides about ~1.5 inch lift), put some NATO steel wheels on it with some BFG muds or AT and enjoy a great rig!

Not a huge fan of the disco 2s they seem to have more issues then the disco1 due to all the creature comforts they tried to add.

You can find one for 1-2k cheaper easily my local CL brought up many cases of this.

All discos are known for blown head gaskets the disco2 it is quite a bit more common because of the larger motor and smaller cooling system. This happens at the 75-125k mile marker for most disco2s. Cost to have mechanic repair you may be looking at the 2400-2700 range.

There is a forum full of great info with some very blunt people on it that covers the disco2 well..

My 95 always seems to have some kind of gremlin but I enjoy fiddling with it and finding cheap parts. Its amazing at doing what it was built for and has tons of character.... I love mine but YMMV
