    Default Range Rover reliability?

    Hey guys,

I've recently been thinking about getting into a Range Rover. I moved to a new area that has a lot of dirt roads, dirt driveways, crappy roads, etc, and my 335i just isn't going to cut it up here.

Anyway, I want to get into an SUV so I was thinking a RR, preferably a supercharged one. There is actually one for sale on the island here which I am test driving tomorrow. However, I've always heard "If you buy a RR, you need to buy two to drive one while the other one is in the shop." aka they always have problems.

Can anyone attest to this? Are there any chronic problems that RR's have?

    Thanks in advance!

I have a 04 HSE and a 07 HSE and both have been great trucks with no big issues. Just make sure you get a PPI done so you have a decent idea of whats going on with it before you pull the trigger ! GL

04 i have major major issues with it wow were to begin, firstly i actually did buy 2 ahahah, anyway i had an 03 and 04 the 03 was totaled in a weird wreck. But the 04 i have suspension failure 3 times on that vehicle and i am actually currently having suspension issues on it right now. In addition the vehicle itself was in the shop for a total of 90 days for 3 years. My neighbor was the president of importing Astons, Jags and Rovers and he got me an additional 2 year warranty which was most definitely useful, but even still a manager at the place were i got mine was telling me that people literally dump their Range Rovers after suspension failure when they are not under warranty, because it cost something like 1,300-2,500 dollars to fix it and they just donate the cars and walk away

I just sold my 06 Range, and to be honest Im glad.

I loved the truck, but it simply wasn't reliable.

Suspension is definitely one of the horrible parts, air suspension sucks. If not under warranty you WILL spend money on suspension during ownership. You may get lucky and just have to fix a sensor, like me, or may get unlucky and have some major issues.

Second major issue is electrical. Range's electrical work sucks. My steering wheel would randomly come down as you start the car so low it would push my legs and wouldn't go back up until you pretended to get in / out of the car.

Third thing is you will have random mess ups, for example. My rear hatch started getting loose, apparently this is common on them and you are supposed to get them tightened. It cost me $100 to tighten a bolt! Second thing that happened to me is if the car gets very cold, which it does up here in Brampton, it just sucks. I don't think you will have that problem in HW tho.

All in all, its a great truck! BUT it will take repairs and the repairs will be expensive. If you know and understand this. Then go for it, if your not ready for this stay away.

    Hope that helped!

Wow this is like Deja' vu my dad when i was younger had the Hunter edition first and then the LWB, ahahah oh man i remember getting a ride to school before i could drive and the tail gate would pop open and he pull over and take out his screw driver and would tighten the bolts close it and would keep on driving, he always carried a screw driver in his car. Same thing with the LWB too, he test drove a dealer car 4.6 hse like 96 97 something in that range before the current body style, which they gave him for about 3 days, the steering wheel just fell on his lap and he struggled to get out and after like 7 hours or so he decided to return the car and said thanks but no thanks

I owned a 2006 for 4 years, it was flawless. No suspension problems, no electrical problems. I purchased a 2010 a year ago, it has had 2 minor issues, but other than that, has been just fine, I would buy another in an instant. A lot of people hate, who have never owned, had an old one, or bought a newer one that has gone through many hands. Some may be good, but there may be some lemons, as with any car. I think people base a lot of their horror stories off the older models...

As with ANY modern day car, I would not own one without a warranty.

Thanks for the input guys! I drove the SC'd one yesterday, loved it! It was a little beat up for the price, but besides a few minor wear areas the rest was great.

Seem's like it's hit or miss with them having problems, and that being said, I couldn't agree more with this:

I had an '07 Sport that never gave me any problems. My friend had an an '07 Sport as well, and he had nothing but problems. His dad also had 1, and that 1 never had any problems either. I'm looking to get a '03,'04, or '05 in the immediate future. I know after 100k miles, a lot goes down, including the suspension, which seems like a easy fix as far as labor, but parts are a bit pricey. I'm looking forward to it.

Get a PPI done on any rovers.

    I'd suggest a G500, or GX470 etc.
